The First Flow: How to Prepare Your Child for Their First Period

The First Flow: How to Prepare Your Child for Their First Period

The first period is a big moment — equal parts exciting, confusing, and a little nerve-wracking (for both of you). But with the right prep, it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Think of it as a gentle initiation into womanhood — one that’s confident, comfortable, and stigma-free. Here’s how you can help your teen be ready to flow fearlessly when the time comes. 1. Start Early, Keep It Real Don’t wait for “the talk” to suddenly happen one fine morning with cramps and panic. Instead, sprinkle period facts casually into daily life — during bath time, shopping, or even while watching a show.Explain that periods are a healthy sign of a growing body, not something to be whispered about. (Psst… that’s our motto too — No more whispers. Period out loud with Nushu.) 2. Normalize, Don’t Dramatize Kids pick up on cues from us. If you treat menstruation like a hush-hush affair, they will too. Use the right words — uterus, blood, cycle — without flinching. And if your child asks the “weird” questions (yes, even where does it come from?), answer honestly. The more normal you make it, the less fear she’ll associate with it. 3. Build a “First-Period Kit” Together Nothing says “I’ve got you” like a thoughtfully packed first-period kit.Include: A mix of options — pads, tampons, a menstrual cup, and of course, a pair of Nushu Teen Wonderwear .Let her explore and choose what feels right and easy for her body.(We have a feeling Nushu will quietly steal the spotlight — but hey, we’ll let her discover that magic herself )Because being prepared isn’t about picking one product — it’s about giving her the power to choose comfort, confidence, and control. A pack  of mild wet wipes or small towel An extra pair of leggings Some chocolate & her favourite snacks A heat pad to melt away those cramps — try our Snuggles Heatpad, stays warm for up to an hour and comes with calming lavender aromatherapy for extra comfort. Finally a mini note from you welcoming her to this beautiful journey of life. Having this handy helps her feel prepared, not panicked. 4. Talk About What’s Normal — and What’s Not Explain that every period looks different. Some girls bleed lightly, some heavily. Cramps, mood swings, and even acne are part of the process. But if anything feels too painful or lasts more than a week, it’s okay to ask for help. Remind her that every body has its rhythm — and that there’s no one “right” way to have a period.   5. Make It About Strength, Not Shame Celebrate the milestone instead of tiptoeing around it. Plan a cozy movie night, or share stories about how this change connects her to generations of strong women before her. And remind her — in places like the Kamakhya Temple, the Goddess is worshipped for bleeding. Her period isn’t something to hide; it’s a symbol of power, creation, and divine strength. Periods are not a pause — they’re a superpower in disguise.   6. Encourage Open Conversations Keep communication flowing. Check in gently — “How are you feeling today?” or “Anything new with your period?”This helps your child know she can come to you without embarrassment. You can even share your own early experiences — the funny, awkward, and real bits — to make it relatable.   7. Focus on Comfort During School Days Discuss what she can do if her period starts in class — who to ask for help, where the washroom is, or what to say to a teacher. Pack an extra pair of Nushu undies in her school bag. They’re leak-proof and rash-free, so she can stay worry-free. And the best part? She just slips them on like regular underwear — no learning curve, no fuss, no figuring things out in a panic when her period suddenly starts. Just comfort, confidence, and instant protection.   8. Teach Her How to Use & Dispose All Period Products Responsibly Show her how every period product has its own care routine — from disposing pads and tampons hygienically to sterilising a menstrual cup, and washing reusable Nushu underwear the right way. Help her understand which products create more waste and which ones can be reused for years. It’s a simple lesson that makes her mindful, confident, and conscious of the choices she makes — for her body and for the planet.   9. Be Her Safe Space Above all, make sure she knows: this is her body, her rhythm, her journey. You’re just there to help her walk through it — equipped, educated, and empowered. Because from first periods to forever periods —Nushu is with you. 💜

The Ultimate Guide for Men to Support Their Partner’s Menstrual Needs

The Ultimate Guide for Men to Support Their Partner’s Menstrual Needs

Periods can feel like uncharted territory for many men. But here’s the deal—learning how to support your partner during their cycle isn’t just thoughtful; it’s a game-changer for your relationship.  Ready to level up your empathy game and gain much needed boyfriend points? Here’s a quick guide to becoming the MVP of menstrual support. 1. Educate Yourself Like a Pro 📚 A period isn’t just about bleeding—it’s a full-on hormonal rollercoaster. Here’s the TL;DR version: Cycle phases:  Menstrual: Bleeding = tired Follicular: Post period = energetic Ovulation: Midway point = confident Luteal: PMS = emotional Menstrual Symptoms 101: Cramps, bloating, fatigue, mood swings—different people experience different intensities. 📌 Quick Tip: Google is your friend 🌐, but don’t hesitate to ask your partner directly about their unique cycle.   2. Show Up with Comfort in Hand 🛍️ When your partner’s battling cramps or cravings, small gestures speak volumes. Cramp-relief solutions: While most go for electric heating pads, microwavable heating pads are all-natural & long-lasting. Plus, they look chic! Pair it with an effective cramp-relief roll-on, and she’s all set. We have a combo deal on the two, too! Snacks: Stock their favorite comfort food 🍫🍟 (yes, even if it’s chips dipped in Nutella). Period products: Know their preference—pads, tampons, cups, or period underwear. Bonus points if you remember their favorite brand! If they haven’t tried a reusable period underwear yet, now is the time to introduce a comfortable period to them. Women swear by it! If you need help in picking the right style for them, we’re here to help :) 🛒 Pro Move: Surprise them with cozy items like a soft blanket 🛏️ or herbal teas ☕.   3. Be the Emotional Rock 💪 Hormonal shifts can lead to mood swings—it’s biology, not drama. Listen actively: Sometimes, they just need to vent 🗣️. Avoid “fixing”: Not every problem needs a solution 🛠️. Be patient: Frustration only makes things worse 🧘. 💡 Remember: A little compassion goes a long way when they’re feeling overwhelmed 💕.   4. Share the Load 🧠 Periods can feel like an extra layer of stress. Lighten the load by: Helping with household chores 🧹. Offering to pick up period supplies or groceries 🛒. Planning low-effort, feel-good activities like movie nights 🎥 or lazy brunches 🥞. 🤝 Teamwork FTW: It’s not about doing everything—it’s about showing you care.   5. Ditch the Taboos 🚫 Normalize talking about periods! It’s 2025—periods aren’t “gross”; they’re natural 🌎. Ask questions: What makes their period easier? What’s off-limits during this time? 🤔 Be respectful: If they’re not in the mood to talk, give them space without judgment 🛑. 🙌 Goal: Be the partner who’s comfortable discussing periods without batting an eye 😌.   6. Celebrate the Good Days, Too 🎉 When the cramps ease and the energy returns, celebrate the bounce-back! Plan something fun, whether it’s a date night 🍷 or a simple “you survived this month, queen!” toast 👑.   Final Words 📝 Supporting your partner through their menstrual cycle isn’t rocket science—it’s about empathy, effort, and a willingness to learn. By being there for them, you’re not just showing love; you’re building a stronger, more connected relationship ❤️. So, are you ready to be their period partner-in-crime? Trust us, they’ll thank you for it!

Community Spotlight: Living with Endometriosis

Community Spotlight: Living with Endometriosis

Endometriosis affects roughly 42 million women in India alone - that’s 1 in every 8 girls! Globally, that number is roughly ❗247 Million women.❗  For many, the journey to diagnosis is marked by years of pain and uncertainty (read this for a breakdown of what Endo is & it’s symptoms)💔.  In this Community Spotlight, Radiyah, a mom & Nushu customer, opens up about her experiences with endometriosis, from early symptoms to daily challenges!   💬In conversation: Radiyah, 39, Mumbai. 👉🏼1. How did you discover you suffered from Endometriosis? Radiyah: I got married in 2009 & at the time, my periods were excruciating!  I experienced heavy bleeding as well. No matter how “heavy absorbency” the pads were, I’d have to change every 2-3 hours without fail. At any given point, I’d also carry about 2-3 pads in my bag. Eventually when I started using cups, that’s when I realised how many clots my flow had. Over the years the cramps kept getting worse! It wasn’t until 2013 when a few fainting spells happened, that I got myself checked!   👉🏼2. How did you go about treatment? Radiyah: So the tests revealed a cyst on one of my ovaries, which had to be surgically removed. Since we’d struggled with conception until then, we were informed by the doctors that child-birth often also mitigates the chances of recurrences. Post surgery we conceived soon after! However, due to certain complications, the pregnancy had to be surgically terminated. Against the odds, I finally gave birth to my son a year later :)   👉🏼3. Did the endometriosis ever reoccur post childbirth? Radiyah: Unfortunately, I was one of the minority women who experienced a recurrence of Endo despite childbirth!  Over time, the same symptoms started resurfacing & I was diagnosed with Endo for the second time! Surgery followed suit too.  This cycle continued for a few years. Each time, the symptoms kept getting worse too! The last time it happened, my doctor told me that my cyst had progressed to becoming an ‘adenoma’, on the exterior part of my uterus.  So this time around they suggested an experimental treatment that involved a ‘Mirena coil’ - a coil that releases targeted medication to dissolve the adenoma, as opposed to getting a hysterectomy at the age of 37.     👉🏼4. How have your symptoms/ body changed since then?  Radiyah: I’ve been on the coil for about 2 years now, so the pain has significantly reduced. The catch is that instead of a monthly flow, I experience a regular “discharge” of blood which is part of the process. That’s how I discovered Nushu – I needed an alternative to cups since they create suction in the cervix which can potentially tamper with the coil.   👉🏼5. What has your experience been like with Nushu’s period panties? Radiyah: They’re super comfortable! I would often get rashes with pads, even with the organic ones. With Nushu, I’ve never experienced any rashes or discomfort. With pads, I also ended up disposing several in a day – so I was conscious of the waste I generated. Period underwear is definitely more eco-friendly, so I’m doing my bit by making a sustainable choice too! (Find her styles – the Hip Hugger & Bikini Brief right here).   👉🏼6. How has having endometriosis shaped your understanding of your body and menstrual cycle? Radiyah: I’ve learnt how tremendously impactful your body’s hormones are! The slightest change & you see it on your skin, digestion, your sleep & energy – they dictate your body’s natural rhythm. It’s because I was so in-sync with my body, that I was able to identify when something was wrong.    👉🏼7. How has endometriosis affected your daily activities, work, or social life during menstruation? Radiyah: For me personally, it disrupted my routine entirely. When I was on my period, I was practically bedridden & would have to cancel my plans for the day or create plans around period. My immunity was also compromised – if I had a particularly strenuous day, I would fall sick the next day! From a very young age, my son has been aware of what menstruation is, why it occurs, what I suffer from, because he would witness what I had to go through every month. He would just know that for a few days, mom is not going to be as energetic or present as she normally is. That’s also made him extremely sensitive and mature for his age.   👉🏼8. What practices have been most helpful in managing symptoms? Radiyah: I’ve never had any dietary restrictions, although I think mindset has greatly affected how I look at it – I know women go through more dire & unfortunate circumstances, so it gives me strength to push through!    👉🏼9. What advice would you give to someone newly diagnosed with endometriosis about navigating life with this condition? Radiyah: Endometriosis might look different for every person, but it's crucial for everyone to be super aware of the health risks they’re exposed to! You need to be able to read your body & detect when something is off. That’s the only way you can catch something in its early stages.  — Radiyah’s journey is a testament to the strength & resilience it takes to navigate life with endometriosis💪🏻.  Her story reminds us of the importance of❗listening to our bodies and seeking help❗when something feels off—no matter how small it seems.  If you’re experiencing persistent pain or unusual symptoms (we have a few listed here), don’t hesitate to consult a healthcare professional. Early diagnosis and support can make all the difference in reclaiming your health and well-being.

Community Spotlight: Things I don't like about period panties!

Community Spotlight: Things I don't like about period panties!

Over 10,000+ women have tried Nushu Period Panties so far! 🩸 It’s only realistic to expect that we’ve gotten at least a few complaints, right? Yep, we did.  So this time we’re speaking to a Nushu customer, who had a couple of very valid complaints! In conversation: Brishti Dutta, 30, Mumbai – 👉🏼Nushu: Why did you decide to try period underwear?Brishti: So I’d been using pads all my life. That’s what I was comfortable with – rather, that’s what I was accustomed to. Even the irritation, itching, I’d just sort of just accepted.  I had come across the concept of period underwear & I tried a disposable period panty a few times – that was super comfortable especially during travel, but it also felt like a diaper.  So when a friend asked me to try the reusable ones, I was a bit skeptical, but I thought I’ll try it while I’m home. Worst case, I’ll just have to go back to pads.   👉🏼Nushu: What’s your experience been like since you’ve tried them?Brishti: I’ll be honest – I have mixed feelings. I’d tried the Super Heavy Duo, which was recommended by my friend. The good part is that it actually is super comfortable and the material itself is so soft, I was actually keen on trying it when I touched it! Even when I wore it for a while I didn't really feel like I was wearing soggy underwear, so the absorption is good.  For me the icky part is washing. I don’t like it for a few reasons: I’m yet to get used to touching my own blood. So with time that might change, but that still causes some resistance for me to pick an underwear over pads/ disposable underwear When I have to go to the office, if I happen to have heavier flow, it stresses me out to think where will I wash it, how will I take it back, etc.  The clots wash off easily but they do sit on the surface, which I understand, but makes me feel a bit icky 👉🏼Nushu: So do you still use Nushu?Brishti: I know I’ve complained a lot about the washing bit, but I haven’t completely abandoned them!  From a comfort perspective, they’re truly unmatched! Pads are convenient, but they’re so uncomfortable, I can’t. The itchiness would just make my period worse. So at least that’s one relief with Nushu.  What I’ve started doing now is, I wear them when I’m at home (or when I head out for shorter durations) since I don't have to stress about how/where to wash them.  Plus, once the rinsing is done, I just put it in the machine, so I’m over with it.  👉🏼Nushu: Do you slowly find yourself getting accustomed to the washing?Brishti: I do actually – I don’t find it as icky as I did a few months ago, and I do see myself getting over it eventually.  It’s teaching me to let go of my conditioning regarding period blood, which wouldn’t have been a conscious thought had I not tried it. So slowly & steadily I’m getting there.   👉🏼Nushu: Do you think the pros outweigh the cons?Brishti: Yes, to some extent since I use it selectively. I choose comfort over the ick of washing when I don’t have to worry about how/ where to wash. Or any public washrooms or when i’m travelling for a short span.  But yes, the bottom line is (Nushu) period panties changed the way I experience my period - it's not as uncomfortable as it used to be.  — Washing can feel uncomfortable to several women – and it's not their fault.  For generations together, we’ve been conditioned to shun menstruation, let alone touch menstrual blood. So de-conditioning oneself can be a process that takes time and patience! Once accomplished, it can feel liberating too! Your period has the power to make you feel connected to your body & your cycle. To own it, is to stay in power – and that’s what Nushu aims to bring to you :)

Community Spotlight: A customer's guide to finding your Nushu!

We get it – Choosing the right period panty, especially when it's a matter of trusting an underwear to give you better absorbency (and value for money) than pads, can feel like a gamble! 🎲 ❓“How do I pick the right style?” ❓“Does this one work overnight?” ❓“Should I size down?” Who better to answer your questions, than someone who’s tackled the same questions you have, and finally found their match? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Meet Nupur – a Nushu customer who went from being a curious sceptic to a strong Nushu-advocate! 💜 From comfort to absorbency, she’s sharing her journey so you can confidently pick the best style for you.  ✨In conversation with Nupur, Pune✨   👉🏼Nushu: What products were you using before Nushu? Nupur: Initially I was using pads & I would always experience rashes, itchiness & just overall I would be very uncomfortable. Then I switched to the menstrual cup, which wasn’t really comfortable either – insertion was super uncomfortable and it was just too messy.   👉🏼Nushu: What convinced you to try the Nushu period panties? Nupur: I actually discovered them on an Influencer’s reel & it grabbed my attention. I went through the website & I was really curious to try it out. In fact I was so curious, not only did I convince my mom to buy it for me, I convinced her to buy it for herself too! At the time I was using a menstrual cup & I really wanted an alternative that wasn’t invasive, but didn’t give me rashes either. I was a bit unsure on how to pick size, and that was really my only apprehension, but I figured it out.   👉🏼Nushu: So how did you go about finding the right style? Nupur: I had help from your team in figuring out everything I needed to know, honestly. Some things I needed to know were: 🩸Flow: My flow is not too heavy, except maybe on day 1. So I knew I might not need a super-heavy absorbency style, a heavy one might work. 🩸Style Preference: I was completely okay with a Bikini-style, I didn’t feel like I needed something high-waist. 🩸Size: I spoke to the team to figure out what size I should go for. But I went for the same size I usually wear with all panties. Taking all these factors into consideration I figured Bikini Brief would be the best fit for me & my mom. So we tried one each first & then within a month, we ordered more pairs of the same style!   👉🏼Nushu: What was your experience like? And your mom’s? Nupur: They were so soft and comfortable! I don’t get any rashes or redness. Not once have I leaked through them. No wetness either! It’s the same for my mom – she is undergoing menopause, so her periods are heavy and erratic, but even she was able to wear it for about 12 hours without leaking! I’ve already recommended this product to so many friends of mine already - they need to try it out!   🩸Quick tips & questions to ask yourself:🩸   👉🏼How heavy does your flow get? To determine this, consider how many pads you go through on a given day. Pick your style basis this thumb rule: > 1-2 pads: Not too heavy/Light (Go for Cheeky Lace) > 3-4 pads: Heavy-ish (Go for Bikini Brief or Lace Bikini) > 5 & above: Super Heavy (Go for Hip Hugger or Lace Hipster)   👉🏼Lace or no lace? Lace styles: Lace Hipster, Lace Bikini & Cheeky Lace No-lace style: Hip Hugger & Bikini Brief   👉🏼Size? Generally, go for your regular panty size. Our sizing is similar to popular brands like Jockey and M&S. But, just to be sure - double-check your hip measurements & verify with our size guide.   For any questions at all, just hit the WhatsApp icon you see on the screen & drop your query! Community Spotlight: Does Nushu work for Postpartum?

Postpartum is a wild ride that no one can fully prepare you for – the physical & emotional recovery can be overwhelming & exhausting!  Today, we’re chatting with Rashida, a new mom who’s sharing her unfiltered journey through postpartum. She gives us the real scoop on what it’s like navigating her physical recovery to managing the effects of childbirth!🌻   🩸In conversation: Rashida Wardhawala, Mumbai, 34🩸   👉🏼Nushu: How has your postpartum journey been so far? Rashida: This is the first time I’ve given birth, so it's been difficult, but manageable. I think it's been tough mostly because of the last-minute surgery I had to go through – I wasn’t planning on caesarean, but it had to be done due to last minute complications. Recovering from the effects of surgery as well took a while.   👉🏼Nushu: What has surprised you the most about the postpartum experience? Rashida: I had purchased the Nushu period panties in advance, so I was prepared for a heavy bleed. Most of the ‘surprises’ came from surgery recovery – it was painful to sit, it was painful to stand, or walk. I was experiencing headaches & back aches constantly! It took about 40 days to recover. I also started bleeding immediately & bled for throughout, which is normal. Initially for 2-3 days, I used the pads the hospital gave me since they would take care of the whole process. I’d have to change pads every 4 hours, that’s how heavy the bleeding was! Then once I was able to change myself, I started using Hip Hugger! It was so much more comfortable & convenient! Since the fabric is softer, it was easier to sit comfortably. Walking was easy too, since the pads would brush against my thighs. I could also wear it for longer than a pad - I wore it for about 12 hours straight before washing it. It made a significant difference!   👉🏼Nushu: What were your biggest concerns or priorities when it came to postpartum care? Rashida: I was more concerned about not being able to feed my baby immediately. I didn’t really have any other concerns since I was already on a fixed diet from the hospital & everything was taken care of.   👉🏼Nushu: What gave you the confidence to choose period panties to manage postpartum? Rashida: I had not tried it before but I spoke to someone from your team before buying them. I knew the style I purchased was meant for heavy bleeding, so I wanted to give it a shot. Fortunately it worked!   👉🏼Nushu: How has your experience been so far? Especially in comparison to pads/ disposable panties? Rashida: I was able to wear it for 12-15 hours without leaking, whereas I had to change pads every 4-5 hours. I did not experience any itching or wetness – overall made my experience with postpartum so much easier than it would have been with pads! It’s more durable, flexible & comfortable than pads. Plus, washing it is quite easy – I wasn’t machine washing them, but even then, it took a couple of minutes at most.   👉🏼Nushu: Would you recommend period underwear to other new moms? Why? Rashida: I already have! Given how comfy & soft they are, I’ve recommended them to expecting moms & just women who bleed in general. A common question I get is, “Will it feel wet or sticky?”, but I reassure them that I’ve never felt uncomfortable or any wetness myself even after wearing it for long hours. Great value for money!   Postpartum can be a daunting experience – physically and emotionally challenging.😓 The least we can do is to offer a comfortable solution to manage your postpartum bleed. 🌸 Our super heavy absorbency styles – the Hip Hugger & Lace Hipster are designed to absorb the heaviest of flows!🩸🩸🩸 So go checkout Rashida’s favourite, the Hip Hugger!✨

Community Spotlight: A period with PCOS

Community Spotlight: A period with PCOS

Living with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) can feel like an uphill battle – from unpredictable cycles to symptoms like weight gain & excruciating cramps. It’s a condition that impacts both the body and mind for millions of women! We sat down with a Nushu customer who knows these struggles firsthand—but also hacked her way into managing her symptoms like a pro!! 💜If you struggle from PCOS, dive into Sabana’s story of strength & patience – we promise you a wholesome, insightful read at the very least :) In conversation with Sabana Ahmed, 23, Guwahati (An English Major & Nushu Customer) 👉🏼Nushu: How did you discover you had PCOS? Sabana: I got my first period when I was in Class 10. After that, when I didn’t get my period for another 3-4 months, I knew something was wrong. When I went to a gynaecologist, she diagnosed me with PCOS. She had prescribed meds, which made my flow much heavier & much more painful! I bled for almost 3-4 weeks too! So I switched doctors & consulted my current gynac, who only recommended lifestyle shifts which ultimately helped!   👉🏼Nushu: What symptoms do you find the most challenging? Sabana: I experienced weight gain, extremely heavy bleeding and excruciating cramps. My flow is so heavy that when I used to use regular Stayfree pads, I would have to change every hour! The cramps were so bad that I wouldn’t be able to stand for more than 10 mins, I was literally bedridden for days. Now in the last 2 years, the duration of my period has come down to 6 days, is more regular than it used to be, and the first 3 days are heavy. The cramps aren’t as bad as they used to be either!   👉🏼Nushu: What lifestyle changes helped manage your symptoms? Sabana: I’ve been managing them for almost 10 years now, so since the beginning, I’ve experimented with a few diets that a lot of people recommend when managing PCOS. What worked for me honestly, was just maintaining a balanced diet. Many people say that if you have PCOS, you should avoid dairy products since they worsen inflammation. Or that you should avoid too many carbs. For me abstaining from any of these things never helped. I also realised that when I was consciously trying to abstain, at some point I would give in & then go overboard! So instead of abstaining. I always advocate & practice portion control. If I’m craving ice cream, I won’t stop myself, I will just have a bit of it. I personally need rice at least once a day. So I include it in my diet, but in control. My family has always been quite health conscious so it's fairly easy for me to maintain a healthy, balanced diet.   👉🏼Nushu: What prompted you to start using period underwear? How does it compare to other menstrual products you’ve used in the past? Sabana: I used to use the regular pads, and I would always get rashes with most brands. I also can’t wear a pad for more than an hour, which was super inconvenient and uncomfortable. I tried using the cups, but honestly it's just not for me. It's too uncomfortable to insert. I wanted something more comfortable, something that wouldn’t leak or give me rashes & I could wear longer! When I came across Nushu, it seemed to be a much better alternative, so I bought a few pairs! Honestly – best decision I made!   👉🏼Nushu: How does period underwear help with managing any heavy or irregular bleeding associated with PCOS? Sabana: I bought 2 Hip Huggers, 1 Lace Hipster & 1 Bikini Brief. They were so comfortable! Initially I was worried it would leak, so I kept checking the first 2 cycles. By the 3rd cycle I was confident I wouldn’t leak, and I never have.   👉🏼Nushu: Have you noticed any changes in your comfort or confidence levels? Sabana: Absolutely! I don’t have to worry about leaks and stains in public so that definitely makes me more confident when I step out on my period. I remember, I wore the Hip Hugger for about 12 hours, on my heaviest day too! By the end, it felt a bit bulky of course, but it didn’t leak or stain my clothes. I didn’t have to keep checking either. Period panties are definitely more convenient to use! The best part is, I can sleep in any position, without waking up in the middle of night, worried I’ve leaked or stained my sheets! 👉🏼Nushu: Would you recommend period underwear to others with PCOS? Sabana: Definitely! I know the feeling of managing PCOS symptoms. I would recommend it to anyone who bleeds in general, not just to someone with PCOS. If I’m able to wear 1 panty for 12 hours, I’m sure someone who does not suffer from PCOS could wear it for longer!   👉🏼Nushu: What advice would you give to someone with PCOS who is considering switching to period underwear? Sabana: It’s super comfortable & so perfect for heavy flow. As someone who has PCOS, I know that we also generate much more waste than a woman who doesn’t have PCOS. So it becomes all the more important to have a sustainable & comfortable option.   👉🏼Nushu: Has your experience with period underwear impacted your perspective on menstrual health & management? Sabana: Periods aren’t talked about a lot, but I think it’s great that more brands are building better solutions for women & as a result, sparking these conversations as well – this conversation itself makes me feel so heard!! Secondly, the waste generation perspective – it's not until you use a period panty do you realise how much waste you, and women around you, end up generating when bleeding! ---Navigating PCOS can be a challenging experience. 🥺While we’re no experts on PCOS (only a gynac can provide medical guidance), we can however offer you more comfort & a menstrual care solution that doesn’t leave you with more agony than you’re already batting! 🩸So go ahead & explore Sabana’s personal favourites – the Lace Hipster & Hip Hugger! 😇

Every Raksha Bandhan celebration comes with the anticipation of gifts, but also the sweet feeling of sharing rakhis with our siblings and friends :)  But ever seen a mom gift Rakhi-bracelets to her daughter? 😍 This time, we’re putting the spotlight on Archana, a Nushu customer & mom, who chose to forge a deeper friendship with her daughter (and introduce some kick-ass period care) through the 🎁Nushu Rakhi Gift Hamper! 🎁 In conversation with Archana Sridhar  (42, and from Bangalore), who got the  Rakhi Gift Hamper  for her  14-year-old daughter, Aishi! 👉🏼Nushu:  What does Rakhi mean to you? Archana: Just the feeling of bonding with your siblings & friends, I guess!   👉🏼Nushu:  As a child, along with tying rakhis to brothers, would you tie rakhis to your sisters and friends as well?  Archana: Honestly, I’m a south indian, so tying rakhis & celebrating Raksha Bandhan isn’t as big of a deal for us. But since most friends of mine would do it, my brother and I would celebrate it too! But yes, my friends and I would tie rakhis to each other as well.    👉🏼Nushu:  Were gifts a ritual too? What gifts would you look forward to receiving? Archana: Absolutely! One of the reasons I would celebrate Raksha Bandhan is because I knew I would get new gifts! I’d look forward to the usual, you know - mostly earrings & other accessories… 👉🏼Nushu:  What was your experience like when you first tried period underwear? Archana: When I was in school, pads were new. So my mom introduced cloth pads to me initially, which got me accustomed to washing them regularly. Later on, a few friends introduced me to silicon cups but I wasn’t very comfortable with the idea of it, so I never tried it. I wanted something cloth-based instead.   So when I came across period underwear it felt very natural to go back to something similar. With pads - I know they are convenient since they’re disposable but they also come with so many health risks, like cervical cancer. I don’t know all of the medical details but I know they’re not the best for your health. With period panties - yes you have to wash it & maintain hygiene, but in the long run they are better. So I thought, I can try them for at least a couple of days and see how it works for me. It turned out to be so soft and comfortable! Even if they might be pricier (than pads), in the long run they’re definitely more beneficial!   👉🏼Nushu:  So who did you purchase the Rakhi Gift Hamper for this year? What prompted you to get it for her? Archana: I got it for my daughter! Honestly, I think when we were teenagers, we would listen to our parents with more ease. Kids now are more resistant to what their parents suggest. So as parents you try new ways to forge a friendship with them! This hamper will hopefully forge a better friendship with her and since it also has other gifts in it that generally girls like – the scrunchie and the bracelets – it might nudge her to try the period underwear too! The panties are so comfortable, I just want her to try it once!  👉🏼Nushu:  What’s your favourite part about the hamper? Archana: The hamper is a great way to introduce a great product to her. Of course I think it’s going to be a process for her to get used to it, but in the long run I prefer she chooses period underwear for its comfort and safety, over the convenience of pads.   👉🏼Nushu:  Have you recommended Nushu to her/other friends before? Archana: Yes absolutely! But not everyone is open to it you know, so to each their own.     When we launched the Rakhi Gift Box, the intention was to make gifting period underwear easy, to help fortify that friendship with a soul-sis easy! 💖 Little did we expect the hamper to help fortify the same friendship between a mother and her daughter 🥹 Go check out the Rakhi gift hamper if you haven’t already – we hope it makes for the perfect gift for your soul-sis, just like it did for Aishi :)

Community Spotlight: All things Menstrual Health

Menstrual health is a basic and fundamental right to every woman who bleeds. Access plays a huge role but so does hygiene, diet and other aspects of health!  So we spoke to Sreedevi, a Nushu customer, to understand how she approaches her menstrual health 🩸 Architect & Nushu-Community Member: Sreedevi Vishnu, Coimbatore 👉🏼Nushu: What is menstrual health to you? Sreedevi: I think having access to the right menstrual products is a huge part of menstrual health. I used to use regular pads & a lot of my friends were trying other options - cups & tampons, but that’s not something I found comfortable. For me it's also about hygiene. I found Nushu & the period underwear was extremely comfortable too. I don’t need to use anything else with it now - no pads, no tampons, no cups! It's also a lot of self care - when I’m bleeding I just take that one day off and rest it out. And a lot of me-time! 👉🏼Nushu: How do you go about your day when your flow starts? Sreedevi: I just ease the day out, and don’t step out much. I’m an architect and my job requires me to be on-field a lot, so on my first day I take that time for myself and don’t put strenuous pressure on myself. I also get a lot of cramps with my period, so my husband takes care of the kids so I can just rest.  👉🏼Nushu: Do you make any changes in your diet to manage PMS symptoms? Sreedevi: Not really, but of course I do have cravings so I try to order something sweet! I do maintain a healthy lifestyle in general so I consume a lot of nuts, veggies and fruits. There are certain nuts you can have at different phases in your cycle, so I maintain that throughout the month.  I consume a lot of dry fruits leading up to my period too. I also drink fenugreek-seed warm water for my cramps,  that really helps!    👉🏼Nushu: How does period underwear fit into your menstrual care routine? Sreedevi: I wanted to stop using pads, because we’re throwing away so much unnecessary waste. But I was also scared of using a cup, so I tried period underwear. I was a bit sceptical about it initially, but I heard stories from my grandmother about how they would use cloth. So I was curious to try it out. I ordered one first and tried it out, and I found it so comfortable, I didn’t feel any wetness. It was extremely comfy! I really like the fact that I didn’t feel any wetness. Even the washing - It felt icky at first, but it's actually really easy and quick. It takes the same amount of time to wrap and throw a pad and you’re coming in contact with your menstrual blood anyway! 👉🏼Nushu: Do you track your menstrual cycle? How has tracking your cycle helped you manage your menstrual health? Sreedevi: That’s not really a problem for me since my cycle is quite regular, so I know when my period is around! 👉🏼Nushu: How do you feel we as a society can better support menstrual health, conversations around it and reduce stigma? Sreedevi: So I’ve personally never had an issue discussing my menstrual health with family and friends, we talk about it quite openly, it's not taboo. I’ve also recommended Nushu to quite a few friends.  But generally I think the ‘ick’ around washing is what deters quite a few people - so normalising that would really help. Honestly, the washing is not even as bad as it sounds! Menstrual Health can be a matter of access and personal health. While majority women in India do not have access to the right menstrual health products, it becomes our shared responsibility to make menstrual hygiene more accessible, but also ensure we do everything in our power to maintain prime menstrual health 💜 Try what Sreedevi tried, right here
